Trellis Rings

Here are my finished rings. They're made of 1/4" X 1/2" flat bar. Meghan was looking for an 18" diameter trellis as a minimum. Hot rolled steel bars come in 20-ft lengths, which I had cut in half to fit in my work truck (which looks suspiciously like a minivan). So if I cut those in half again, I've got a 19" diameter ring (60" / π for the non-mathies). The biggest challenge here was getting them as near to perfectly round as possible, which is difficult in a forge that's only about 9 inches wide. If they weren't round enough when attaching them to the vertical bars, those bars would look wavy, as they would have to bend in and out to reach. If I was going for an "organic" shape, maybe that would be OK. But I wasn't. 

I had been wanting a ring roller for a while, as I've done even larger rings before and those took a while to get round. So I found a design I liked on YouTube and made my own, with modifications. I wasn't sure it would be strong enough to bend that bar, but it turned out to be no real effort. All five rings were bent in maybe a half-hour, then welded closed.
